Faith In Darkness

Why is it that its always at night when things seem to explode in a mess of drama and confusion? It rarely happens in the morning, or when it does, its not the same. Its not as bad. Why, then, is it that in the darkness we doubt and fear and cry out far more than we would in the light?

"Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord!" - Psalm 4:6

Darkness can be blinding. We fear in the dark, and forget to trust in Him as we do in the light. When we ought to simply give our worries up to Him and trust Him to sort it out for us, we stress about it and think of every possible way it could get worse, and then expect it to get that much worse. Darkness pulls at the corners of our minds and we shrug away and pull ourselves further from everything.

"In Him was life, and the life was the light of men." - 1 John 1:4

It is at the end of the day when we start to wonder about the things we did during the day. We start questioning whether that was the right thing to say, or if that was the wrong thing to do. We need to let it go, and trust Him to work it right. If we trusted the Lord in the light, why should we suddenly doubt His will and plan for us in the darkness? We ought to trust Him all the more. The saying, "Don't doubt in the darkness what we knew in the light" is very wise.

"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." - 1 John 1:5

Do not be afraid. The Lord created the dark as well as the light, one to rule the day and the other to rule the night. They are separate, but were equally pronounced good, and He rules over both. Do not fear, do not be shaken. The darkness may seem to surround us, but in Him can be found all manner of light.

'The sun rises, and the sun goes down, and hastens to the place where it rises." - Ecclesiastes 1:5

Physical sight is something we lean on, its a crutch. Could we have the same faith in God in the darkness if we didn't have the light? Yes. Have faith, and even in darkness we will see and remain strong through anything.

"Then he toughed their eyes saying 'According to your faith let it be done to you.'" - Matthew 9:29

The darkness is short, and the sun will rise again. And with it's warming rays comes hope. It melts into our hearts and our eyes open and see around us again. We feel strong again, we've made it through the night, and we joy in it. Therefore, believe no matter what. Darkness or light. The Lord is by your side, and no worry is too small to place at His feet. Joy in the darkness. Joy in the light. And remember that tomorrow the sun will rise and it is another day for us to prove to the world that we serve a loving God. Joy comes in the morning, and the morning always comes.

"The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you. The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace."
